SAN JUAN — Puerto Rico says it will receive $20 million in federal funds to repair a road on the island’s southern coast where potholes and uneven lanes have been blamed for numerous accidents.
It is the largest amount the US government has ever disbursed to the territory for such a project.
Gov. Alejandro Garcia Padilla says 19 miles (30 kilometers) of the PR-10 road which runs from Ponce to Adjuntas will be repaired. Ponce is Puerto Rico’s second-largest city.
Puerto Rican officials have said many capital projects have been placed on hold because of a decade-long economic crisis.
